Including Regional Knowledge Improves Baseflow Signature Predictions in Large Sample Hydrology

A catchment's hydrological response is controlled by climatic forcing and the landscape through which water moves. Yet when we compare large samples of catchments, often find climate to be only good predictor a lot variability left unexplained. This contradicts extensive evidence from field regional studies shows importance catchment form (e.g., geology) on processes, particularly baseflow processes. We hypothesize that this due limitations in (a) attributes use inform our analyses (b) signatures describe response. To test these hypotheses, sample data across contiguous United States. By reviewing literature several U.S. regions, show region-specific knowledge underutilized studies. organize findings propose apply framework based standardized perceptual models.
